 | February 5th, 2004 | Tower Hill, Vic
Updated Feb 5, 2004 - Tower Hill, located between Warrnambool and Port Fairy, formed around 25,000 years ago when rising magma came into contact with the subterranean water table. The violent explosion that followed created the crater (later filled by a lake) and the islands seen today. Tower Hill was declared Victoria's first National Park in 1892, and was declared a State Game Reserve in 1961.

 | February 3rd, 2004 | Stawell, Vic
** Updated Feb 2004 ** Stawell is located in central western Victoria, about a third of the way between Ararat and Horsham. It is only a 10-15 minute drive from Hall's Gap and the Grampians mountain range, and is located directly above a major gold mine! It is also the home of the "Stawell Gift" foot race. Stawell makes a good home base for exploring this part of Vic, and is only about a 2 hour drive to Warnambool and the ocean in the south. There are several wineries in the district, including the Great Western winery (just down the highway towards Melbourne).
